KLH R3100 stereo receiver volume won't adjust

Perhaps someone local. I like to post ads on craigslist or freecycle that say "free for parts or repair" Usually it's gone within a few hours. It's nice to see things get recycled/reused rather than going to the landfill.

Is it wrong to leave a transformer plugged in ??

Personally, I've seen too many cheap Chinese products like this smoke/catch fire to trust mounting it near anything combustible like under your cabinet. I also wouldn't necessarily trust the CE mark with out verifying it. They are notorious for faking testing agency listings. [Mod edit: I...

    Reflow Bga chip.

It's my understanding that the solder balls under the chip often fail after a while from expansion/contraction during heat/cool cycles of the chip. I don't know if my heating up the top of the chip with hot air fixed a fractured solder point, or something internal in the chip? I've looked...

    Reflow Bga chip.

Yes, I'll leave it for now as the tv is working great. I'm thinking if I attempt to replace Yes, I'm not going to spend $3k on a dedicated oven, but I may attempt a jury rig inexpensive heater set-up with a temp probe attached to monitor the heat. I don't do enough of these types of repairs to...

    Reflow Bga chip.

Ok thanks, but what about reworking existing chips? Heres my gba graphics chip with hundreds of tiny balls of solder under it. (only slightly bigger than 1") To properly reflow the balls of solder under it, I assume I would need to heat the underside (with more smd components) to an accurate...

    Reflow Bga chip.

I picked up a nearby scrap plasma TV for a few bucks with a pink and green pixelated screen. I found the graphics processor, added a little flux around its edges and heated it up in a circular motion with my hot air gun......and voila' , it fixed the problem, but I realize this is likely just a...

Low DC voltage at wider distances for ESP32

I interpret it as 2v min to 4.4v max input. Installed on the load end it should do the job but it's only good for about 10ma. Perhaps that's too wimpy for the load.

KLH R3100 stereo receiver volume won't adjust

No help there. I'd be looking at opamp 4558 which I think is this 8 pin component. Check power on pins 4(+) and 8 (gnd). Outputs pins 1 and 7, can be checked with an audio probe or amplified speaker with an isolator cap of about .1uf. (Google audio probe) The input can be checked similarly with...

Yes, 4.7k is a common resistor. I'd be looking for shorted components in surround area.

Unsolder it, and look at markings on/under the board. Doorking.com has manuals to download to help you identify. You have to find the other failed component(s) that lead this resistor frying. If the resistance reads open circuit, you can try gently scrapping the middle of the resistor with an...

Fluorescent strip light blows fuses when switched off, but not every time

I didn't say I don't believe you, it's just much higher than we're use to on this side of the ocean. Your Au/Nz rules are a lot closer to UK codes than how we do things here, but if we're are all clear on design and terminology we can still arive with the same answers (regardless of location)...

Fluorescent strip light blows fuses when switched off, but not every time

Not in America. I assumed ground fault protection levels were similar in UK. I figured the response was close enough to answer the op question. Our Nec and UL stipulates ground fault protection for personal protection (class A) is to be between 3-6ma with most tripping with most manufactures...
