    Correct, 9-0-9 will have 18V. Not sure of your load. Expect 15+ volts. Possibly 17Volts at the bridge rectifier. Martin

    Possibly, hopefully, it was just a random loose connection. For future adventures, always make sure the DUT (device under test) is unplugged and capacitors are discharged for your own safety. Martin

    Yes, generally. Obviously depends on the load. If a 500mAh battery is used for a 500mAh load, expect less than an hour. If 500mAh load and 1800mAh battery, expect 3 hours. But of course, nothing is written in stone and battery specifications do over estimate. Martin

    Quite possibly, we’ll never know. Might also have something to do with being ‘green’. More efficient, newer technology?(laugh), cheaper to manufacture? (Probably). Price per unit come down? (Doubt it). They aren’t exactly the best for saving the planet. Nor are cow farts. Worst polluters known...

    Perhaps you should have taken it straight back to the tech. Hindsight!. The first things to check then would be ALL connectors, ribbon cables and any wires that may not have been put back in place properly. Have a good eye ball everywhere inside. Especially connectors to the tape mechanism and...

    I presume the tape deck worked satisfactorily for the last year or two?. So I doubt the tech introduced further issues. I would start checking the power supply. As this unit is knocking on 30 years old, the electrolytic capacitors would be an obvious starting point. Martin

    As we all did years ago, for tow bar electrics. Just do it. The bulbs will draw more current. The wire and fuse will be fine. They will still glow below your minimum requirement just like a torch when batteries are low. Martin

    1.75A would be correct for 12V. And 1.5A approx for 14V. The inrush you mentioned would be too quick for any wiring or switches to over heat. You have the fuse there for a reason. Out of curiosity, what bulb is it? A brake light? Which is normally 21W or an indicator? Which is also 21W. Martin
