    Convert 110v 60Hz to 230v 50Hz

Grinder motor alone is 2kw. Supply should be sized at least 125% of that. The start up current is considerably higher than the motor rating. As Hevens1944 said, It's best to consult an electrician to scope out what you have and verify it's safe. He may have to tweak fuse sizes, thermal...

    Shredder Repair (Fellowes)

Dimensions 8cm by 11cm? 3+4 may be referring to taps 3 and 4 of secondary. I would not put too much faith in 15.6v. I suspect it may be a 14v transformer that outputs 15.6v unloaded. Take a look at the board and see if there are any markings indicating voltage. Also (looking in power supply...

Controlling power levels of house electronics

I know next to nothing about them, but I believe they work from a temperature differential. The amount of electricity produced is not much, but if you can find a way to exploit waisted energy, cumulatively you may be on to something big.

    thyristor vs triac

Those confounded newfangled inventions. Lol (Good video but could only stand about 5 minutes of it)

    thyristor vs triac

Seem silly to me to use generic names like thyristor or vacuum-tube when referring to components. It's like walking into a grocery store and asking for a can of vegetables.

    Shredder Repair (Fellowes)

Picture didn't load. Are you sure its the transformer? You need to know what size in va it is. I didn't look up your number but, Perhaps something like this...

Headphones mute speakers when plugged in

You may just want to boost the signal from your pc. Most soundcards have audio jacks that can disconnect the external speakers, but your sound properties may need to be adjusted on your computer. If you just want your headphones louder you could buy something like this...

    thyristor vs triac

Thank you for the correction. I have never heard anyone referring to a Triac calling it a Thyristor.

    thyristor vs triac

Basically, SCRs and thyristors are for switching dc and triacs for switching ac. A believe "thyrisor" is just a fancy name for a high current SCR. So a triac and a thyristor are not the same components, but a scr and a thyristor are essentially the same.

Controlling power levels of house electronics

Air conditioning is usually the largest load in a house. I have heard stories of people capturing the heat being dissipated by a condensing unit (noisy thingy outside) with a heat exchanger and then using it to heat their swimming pool. This idea could also pre-warm water before entering a hot...

    Over voltage protection.

Although a fuse is slooooow, a resettable breaker is even sloooooooower. Another downside is they are not as precise as a fuse.

Controlling power levels of house electronics

The stanby power of most of these type devices is insignificant in my opinion. What you ask can be done, but not sure its worth the trouble. Phantom power may cost a few dollars a year, but your paying for the convenience of the remote control, clock display, or quick boot up. Unless you have a...

    Your food (Mature/Adult viewing)

I'm an advocate of buying locally. There's also meat clubs, where maybe 3 or 4 families can buy a pasture raised animal together from a farm and have it butchered/packaged up for them. One thing many don't realize is how bad corn raised cattle is for both the consumer and the cow. They say by...

    Your food (Mature/Adult viewing)

There needs to be a balance. Somewhere between totally exploiting an animal who's entire existence is misery and not tearing the leaves off of lettuce because it may hurt the plant. It's sad that a chicken never sees the light of day, has its beak cut off, constantly runs on a treadmill, lives...

    Your food (Mature/Adult viewing)

Good video, although I disagree with their stance on hunting. Hunting is a more humane way to harvest an animal. Managing the number of wild animals is also humane because many starve to death or cause fatal traffic accidents. I would like to see some kind of grading by a third party to label...

    Chosing the Right Tweeter

@hevans1944 I always enjoy your posts though I don't always fully understand. Can you explain how you arrived at the rc impedance @1khz? I thought it'd be much higher than that. I get 34k for Xc alone. Thanks, John

Wiring LEDs with different V & mA?

I've got a dumb question: An AC wall wart that's rated 12v 500ma will produce 12v when it's fully loaded and about 15% higher voltage at no load. Would it then be advised to not use a much larger supply because it won't be loaded enough to render the correct voltage? I know if circuit voltage...
