Problem modding an ATX power supply

I'm not sure about newer psu's but some older ones needed a load on the 5v and 3.3v rails. It could be sensing that voltage is on these rails and sensing a fault. A possible way to check is to power it on with your load to the 12v then turn it off. Then 'carefully' short the caps and then power...

    Motor running problems

Hi Max, you sound very talented. I am a carpenter and love to tinker too. I really think your supply is sufficient for most electronic purposes. You don't need more power at all. You need to play/tinker with things that wont injure you or worse! If you really want to play with that big motor...

    Motor running problems

I think your power supply is a little short on the voltage side. It is probably a 240v motor. Is there a label on it giving the specifications? Tinkering is great but you have to be extremely careful. Better to 'play' with a 9v or 12v motor on your supply. EDIT; how rude of me.. Sorry, Hi Max.

Can You Look at This and Tell Me Why It Doesn't Work?

' Calling for heat ' is when the thermostat switches on. You said it works except auto. The R and W are the switch wires. Put power to R and fan to W. Not sure if you still need link between RC and R but it wont hurt to leave it there. Give that a try.

Can You Look at This and Tell Me Why It Doesn't Work?

You could try putting the fan + to G as it is now and remove the link to Y. Then put the + from power adapter to Y on it's own. Y and G linked is giving constant power to G. As you said, It works when switched ON but not in AUTO. I would try it. I cannot see how it can work though because a...

Help with Pioneer DV-310 DVD Player

Hi, appears that you may have to power down the unit, hold the STOP button while applying power again. Screen should come back. This is a factory reset. Hope it works.. Martin. EDIT; Page 12 of the user manual has another way. unplug hdmi cable, reconnect with the supplied video cable and press...

Can You Look at This and Tell Me Why It Doesn't Work?

This may sound silly but, where is the thermostat located? Seems to me that the thermostat is on the outside of the insulated box? That will only only control the temperature around the thermostat. Not inside the enclosure. Can you confirm this? Martin. EDIT; What thermostat is it? some...

Forward Current, Forward Voltage, Reverse Voltage...

Hi Tehmaxwell. Some really good explanations and advice above. If you are anything like me, (a little slow), there is a guy on youtube who explains with scenarios until you end up SHOUTING ' Yes, I got it '. Here is a link to his Ohms law video.
