    Component ID

Ok Adam, I will put them in my container for now. But if you don't know what they are, then a noob like me will never use them..

    Component ID

Thanks Adam, I would say the same size as a TO-92. About 5mm long and 4.5 - 5mm across the flat section. (just the body)...

    Component ID

Hi guys, I have been scavenging components from an old dvd player board smps. Two components look exactly like a standard through hole transistor. Black with the flat front But only have two legs.. They each have the markings N5S and N25S. Google wasn't my friend today.. Could they possibly be...

Running incandescent or halogen bulb with 2/3 or lower voltage possible?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halogen_lamp It looks like the halogen lamp would need a higher temperature for the chemical reaction to take place. So, it would work as you described. But, you would have to 'up' the voltage for the reversible effect to take place. Have a good read and test it..

Running incandescent or halogen bulb with 2/3 or lower voltage possible?

A lower colour temperature? Do you mean 'Kelvin'? Surely, if you fit a dimmer and turn it down, the colour would change. I just tried mine and they went from bright white all the way down to a deep sunset red. You can buy bulbs that are 'cool white' or some diffusers do a similar job. DJ's do it...

    Measuring distance of many targets

" Humour "...Sounds like all you need is a 'police' scanner.. The tower (scanner) enables you to get out of there when you know they are getting close..:D They usually transmit an ETA..;)

    Transformer datasheet

I once asked on the Dewalt forum for datasheet on my radio transformer because only had a number and letters that a google search couldnt help with. The reply was "most transformers do not have identifying marks or specs'! I was lucky to have two radios, one working and charging and the other...

    Mobile phone chargers

Thanks KJ, I realise the usb types are 5v etc. But the other non-usb supplies are of different voltages and current ratings. For example, my old old Nokia charger says 3.7v @355ma. My old old Samsung charger says..AC DC adapter 5v @300ma. I guess that some are indeed adapters while the device...

    Been doing it all wrong!!

Crickey 'o' Reilley.. I really should read back what I type!! That should have been /350ma 8.8v / .350ma = 25.14...? I have printed all the replies here so I can chew on it until I understand. Thanks Kiwi.

    Mobile phone chargers

Hi all, what is the difference in Mobile phone chargers and power adapters? My old LG phone chargers label says ' travel adapter. input 100/240v , output 5.1v 0.7a. And so do all my other chargers and adapters allbeit different outputs. Can I JUST cut off the connectors and use them as '...

    Been doing it all wrong!!

WOW, Thank you all for the info. And FISH, you were right about being on different pages!! Gryd3, Yes, I typed it wrong..Meant to type V over I*R like the ohms law triangle. Fish, Yes Iwas refering to subtracting the Vf first. 12v.psu, diode Vf 3.2v, @350ma . So, 12 - 3.2 = 8.8.. So 8.8 / 3.2 =...

    Been doing it all wrong!!

Hi guys, I am a newbie here but thought my formulas were correct....Danggg.. Ohms law. V / I * R or a variation of the same. I just read the STICKY on L.E.D's and formulas to figure out Resistance and Current.. My brain tonight is like mushy peas. I thought .. 12v supply.. LED Vf 2v @20mah Was...

Replace internal AC tranny for DC adapter?

Update guys... I have been scratching my head all morning but very pleased with myself.. I originally omitted the fact that the item in question is pc ext speakers. I connected the DC directly to the capacitor with correct polarity. And the speakers worked!! I thought fantastic...

Replace internal AC tranny for DC adapter?

Hi Arouse1973 And Witsender.. Thank you both for (The same answer). Tomorrow I will re-solder directly to the cap and bypass the rectifier. Incidently, apart from the v drop across the diodes, any other issues with this regarding wave forms for the (two) rectifiers? one on pcb and one in the...

Replace internal AC tranny for DC adapter?

Hi guys, just joined as I am learning electronics as a NOOB!! The Question. Can I replace an internal 220v-9v .5A tranny with an external DC 9v-1.5A adapter? Obviously it can be done, but I am a little confused as the pcb is already full wave rectified. So, with a 9v DC adapter going through the...
