    Hall effect ignition

Allegro themselves in their test setup data sheet for this device stipulate that the 0.1uf as sufficient. Just because the 2 plugs may fire in series does not mean it is pointless to connect the plug bodies to ground. Any floating output can create problems so I'd be inclined to keep as per...

    Homemade Coil Help

I remember seeing one of those in Dad's shed. One of the reasons we used to find somewhere else to be when he would say "just come and hold this for me for a second"..... For the jigger mentioned above we used to use a realy coil and wind a primary over the existing....all fitted in a case the...

    LED for electric heater (UK)

No, I said "indicator" ....I assumed you would know enough not to put an LED across mains AC supply. Still no layout drawing on the horizon?

    LED for electric heater (UK)

Show us a schematic of how it is wired. Your description of the setup does not match how you say it works. Anyhow, just wire the new indicator across the main incoming lead. Plugged in to the wall socket and turned on gives an indication from the new light. Either that or plug it into a double...

    Reading a ruler help, 1.2 or 1.02

Ah yes, but, it's quicker to say "knock off an extra thou" than it is to say" knock off an extra zero point zero two five millimetres". :p Edit: for the machinists out there ....:)

    Overdrawing an analog ammeter?

You could buy/build an expanded scale meter in that case but I don't see the point. Perhaps one you can switch between ranges. I can see this costing you yonks for the ammeter for a 2 bob power supply. Just apply the current limit arrangement as Kellys-eye suggested.

    Overdrawing an analog ammeter?

There are alternatives like these ready made units from Ebay. Cheap yes, but do the job for most hobbyist i would imagine...

    Reading a ruler help, 1.2 or 1.02

Half way between 1 and 2 would be 1.5 so it follows that 2 units out would be 1.2 and 4 units out would be 1.4. Merry Christmas :)

Converting Double Insulated Light To Faux-Case Grounded

Ok...to begin with, the low voltage generated in the device is not isolated supply. Then there is a possibility the heatsink plate may be connected to the line indirectly. All the above is acceptable in a double insulated, encased, away from prying fingers, environment. Bring any of it out to...

Converting Double Insulated Light To Faux-Case Grounded

Regardless of how much you think you know, one cannot simply start hacking into mains powered equipment willy nilly and making modifications that can create a dangerous electrical situation.

Converting Double Insulated Light To Faux-Case Grounded

Forget it or you will get yourself into problem areas you cannot imagine. The heat dissipation is more than likely, allowed for in the design, and/or it has a certain duty cycle. The label mentions nothing about being waterproof, just suitable for damp locations, not a recognized IP rating...

3V battery circuit / back lit rocker switches

You can use the switch no problem but the illumination will almost certainly be a neon indicator. These are used with a resistor for 250vac operation. Neon striking voltage is around 90v. Perhaps look for an led illuminated switch instead. Probably more common in the 12v dc range though. For...

    Dryer motor wiring have diagram

Just tape/isolate them I guess. They were originally used to drive the heater circuit via a centrifugal switch inside the motor. Operation was, heater comes on only if selected AND motor was running. Others I've seen are a little more safety orientated and operate the heater via a belt switch...
