Repairing my CRT's severed power cord

Ask a local electrician. He'll probably fit a new cord flex and plug assembly while you wait.

Replace fried range hood transformer with cheaper alternative?

I'm guessing they are trying to be safety conscious using low voltage to the MR16 type lamps in preference to the high voltage GU10 style.

Illegal to repair a flex power cable in any way in many countries. Replacement only.

pwm dimmer questions and how to select right one

Read someone had similar and by applying full 12v the display would extinguish so I'm guessing something to sink the signal wire.

Replace fried range hood transformer with cheaper alternative?

Basic switchmode supply. Designed to keep the size of the transformer small by changing the frequency usually. Input rectified then changed to different frequency then stepped down.

    delta wye transformation equivalent resistor

Depends where you measure it from. Both have 3 leads.

To diagnose anything one first needs to know how it works, so I'd suggest you start there.

    Amplifier wiring problem

Appears the whole pre-amp section including controls are missing and as such the power supply would be about a 1 on a scale of 1 to 50.

    Amplifier wiring problem

Without the other board you are essentially up a creek without a paddle. If the extra parts you have shown were indeed from the original, then the transformer which has a split output. i.e. 2 x blue and black cable would have gone to some type of rectifier(x1) regulator(x2) to become the V+, V-...

    Amplifier wiring problem

Can you show the rest of it. i.e. where the ribbon cable goes. As it is ... LIN = Left Channel In RIN = Right channel in V+ = supply positive (but unknown what voltage level) V- = Supply negative ( ditto) Ground = Common for the supply and the 2 signals.

    refreshing Ni- cad battery

Do not discharge below 0.8v per cell otherwise cell may not recover. Never seen a 5v nicad.....nominal voltage per cell is 1.2v.......fully charged it can reach 1.45v per cell.... Memory effect usually shows as reduced capacity BUT so does a faulty cell...... To recycle automatically look...

    Making a Powerful Solenoid

In my experience with model engine building ( a bit off topic I know) but , valve opening requirements are approximately 1/8 of the diameter. Any more than this is just a waste and in the application it would create problems as the revs increase to have the valve open for so long. So, 12mm...

What do I use for a 3 Amp Ammeter shunt

Why did you think you need a shunt? If a meter is shown with a dedicated current capability, then a shunt is already in place or provided within the kit. Are you intending to run more than 3 amps through the meter?

    Making a Powerful Solenoid

By my estimation, and I could be a way off here as very little info supplied, you've used about 300 metres of 34 g wire on say a 12 mm spindle. 8000 turns gives maybe 250R. With 50ma that then gives a supply around 12.85v and a total wattage of about 0.65W Not a lot of power given 1HP = 746W.
