    How to post code?

I’m sure I’ve seen code posted on here before but I can’t find any way of posting my code. Is there a code box?. Or am I mistaken and saw it on the arduino forums?. TIA

    Two LM7805’s

This is probably the stupidest question ever!. Can the two regulators share a heat sink without insulating them?. My heart says no and my brain says yes as -neg and tabs are electrically connected. Both regulators are on the same 9V rail too. So are in effect already connected together via the...

    Arduino & DFPlayer mini noise.

Hello forum, As the title suggests, I’m having issues with noise. One wire in particular on the breadboard which connects both sides Negatives together acts as an antenna. The other noise issues are (I believe) low frequency oscillations from the DFPlayer while playing. The Arduino has a higher...

    DIY load for generator testing.

Hi guys ‘n’ gals, I’ve been reading up on generator load banks. But they seem to be quite complicated and very expensive. I did read one that said “the load bank is a heating element with fan cooling”. That sounds to me like a simple ‘fan heater’. All our generators are only 5-8KVA and I was...

Check individual cells of a car battery.

Hi guys n girls, A guy at work checked a car battery in a way that I’ve never seen before. He attached a scrap of metal rod to his multimeter probe and dunked it in each wet cell while holding the other probe on the batteries external post connection. Then proceeded to dunk his probes in two...

    Mains quick testers.

Hi guys/gals, I recently started a new job testing hire tools. 110V and 240v. In my past, I used Martindale socket testers etc. But they obviously throw a fault condition on generators and yellow brick step down/ up transformers. I have all the appropriate test equipment but wondered if a...

    Resistor inside an inductor.

Hi all, I have an amplifier that I’m cleaning the dust from inside and noticed that a resistor is inside an inductor. It’s the same on both amp sides. I’ve never seen or noticed this before. What’s the purpose of it?. I can’t see if it’s in parallel or not without taking the board out. TIA Martin

    12V Soldering iron.

Hi guys/gals, I am looking to buy a 12V iron for vehicle use. Car wiring comes in different gauges as you all know. I have gas powered irons and an old very cheap 12V iron but want a semi decent one. What brand would you recommend and what wattage?. I want it to last and if possible have spare...

    Fascinating photonicinduction

Photonicinduction has returned to Youtube. This video is fascinating (for me) about rectifiers. Playing with mercury in his living room. www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pDcv6g1FE0 Martin

Possible new job. Looking for advice.

Hi all, I am possibly having an interview next week for a new job. I am giving up the building trade and hopefully entering the electronics industry. Main reason is my tools have been stolen again and my love for my hobby. The company is N.e.m.k.o (without dots) and they certify goods for CE and...

    FR & RF Thermal fuse.

Hi all, I have been searching for the difference between FR and RF with respect to thermal fuses. There isn't much I could find out but hoping somebody here will know. It's for a rice cooker (184c 16A 240V). The only reasonable priced item is a 185c 15A 240V. I can't see that 1 degree C will...

    RGB LEDs

Hi guys, I am a little discombobulated. I don’t have the data sheet for these. I have 5mm RGB common anode and common cathode LEDs. I am only using RED and GREEN, BLUE leg is snipped off. I want GREEN on constantly dim and RED to over power the GREEN by being brighter when switched on. I’m...

    LTspice issue.

Hi guys n gals, Yesterday, I updated LTspice which took over 40 minutes. I hadn’t updated in two years. The issue is I can’t ‘snap’ components in place anymore. Meaning the component stays attached to my cursor. Even goes off screen when I try the ‘back’ button. I’m sure it’s something silly...

Anybody else watching the USA election results?

I’ll put my cards on the table. Trump to win. I know, I know, put my own back yard in order first. But as we all know, governments don’t listen once elected. I have Boris who wasn’t elected by the people. If Biden wins, I think you’ll get somebody else who wasn’t elected either, namely Kamala...

    Shaded pole motor.

Hi all, I am making miniature electrical tools like table saws, sliding mitre saws, drill press, bench grinder etc. Some of the tools use food stick blender motors and others use the 775 dc motors. (Always open to suggestions). I have a wide and varied amount of cheap Ebay motor controllers. I...

    PAL vs NTSC?

Hi all, I have a question about the different frequencis. PAL is 25 lines while NTSC is 35. We know across the pond is 60Hz and Europe is mostly 50Hz. Yet NTSC has 500 frames and PAL has 600. PAL is clearly the better quality. UK is PAL!. Hoorah.. but on a serious note, do they share the same...
