Audio Amplifier in Common Emitter Configuration

I need to build an audio amplifier based on common emitter configuration with a BC547 NPN Transistor. The input signal is an audio jack. An 8 ohm speaker is connected as output. Biasing of transistor to be done with a battery of 9 volts.

Why does that amp need to be that design, as it as it is very inefficient and will not generate much power into an 8 ohm speaker?

The design and criteria are fixed by the teacher and cannot be altered.
