Hi all,

I found a PSU project here: http://www.qsl.net/yo5ofh/projects/ham%20radio%20projects.htm
The 13.8V 65A project link shows the circuit. And I was wondering if you can pull 13.8V @ 65A form an 18V 45A transformer? And if so how to dispose of >750 W of heat generated in the five TIP 26C that are used?
Is there something wrong here or is it just me?

Since the circuit uses TIP26 transistors that don't exist and has its LED upside down I think it is a joke.

I was also suspicious to the TIP26 transistors i did a little search on the net, and it seems that they do exists. But i also think the whole PSU is a bad joke. ???

Thanks for your inputs guys!
I will tell my friend it’s a joke like I suspected and he must look for another project. His uncle is a HAM guy and wanted at least 50A so first I told him to get a car battery and a small charger but he didn’t like to have acid in his house. Perhaps it is cheaper to buy a ready built PSU since a transformer this size is very expensive. :-\

When I glanced at the schematic I saw the 50V rectifier rating and thought it was half the transformer's rating. If it rectified the 50VAC to get 68VDC then at 65A the poor output transistors will melt with 3.5kW!

Hi

Is the tranny rated for 18 Volts CT @ 45 Amps or 36 Volts CT @ 45 Amps? ???
Of course it is a 36 Volts CT tranny, but the schematic dont says that! ;D
Hey, thats a 1620 VA tranny, a real big one! ;D ;D

I discarded the link for this site, obviously not a relevant place to find a serious project! >:(

Thanks again Guys for your inputs! ;)
