warhorst
hi, i wanted to transmit a pulse from and end of a tube contain with water and detect the pulse from the other end using a pressure sensor. The tube is "U" shaped and so i want to know how a pressure sensor work when it is active and what kind of output will it give?.....thanks
Guest Yevgenip
It depends on the kind of sensor you use, but it will probably change it's resistance.
warhorst
so if i would like to use a timer to time when the pulse is sent and then stop the timer when the pulse is detected, what type of sensor is best?as a chnge in resistance is pretty hard to trigger a timer.....well i am not an expert so what is the best recommended sensor type?thanks
Guest Yevgenip
Well, in your case the best sensor will be one that will actualy send a pulse when the pressure goes over a certain level - but I don't know if you have one.If the sensor changes it's resistance then connect one end to a power supply and the other to a schmit trigger that will activate your timer.Good Luck! hotwaterwizard
Exactly what are you trying to Do?Water is my Specialty.I Install Water Reclaim systems
warhorst
well, what i want is to send a pulse through a 'U' Shaped pipe filled with water. And at the other end of the pipe, i would want to detect the pulse and calculate the time taken for the pulse to travel to the other end.So currently, my difficulty is finding out about the sensor that will detect the pulse. As for the pulse i am thinking of using compressed air as the pulse or is there a better way??thanks
Dazza
Here is an idea, that may help.At the other end you could use a solenoid latch, that when triggered will drop something into the water, then you'll need to link both devices to some think that can record the event. Dazza
I just thought of something else to add, if you use two probes at the bottom of whatever it is you drop in the water. The water will act as a switch, a conductor linking the two probes electrically triggering the start of the event, and the Hall affects sensor indicating the end. warhorst
hi, well the pipe is like a rubber pipe ....and its about 1 to 11/2 inch diameter.so i am not sure it will work. i just thought of something else. what if i have a 12v battery source and so called send the charge through the water and receive on the other end,is this workable? ante
Hi warhorst,It sounds like you need a sonar system. 8)
warhorst
can you sponser the sonar system...hehhehe... ;Dwell i think it does not work as the pipe is not straight and somwtimes it is bent and so the sonar is "deflected" so it is not accurate. i figure that by using a timer i can calculate the time taken and speed, so i can measure the distance for it.thanks...however, my current idea is to use a electric pulse as described above. Any comments on it?thanks alot
Guest Yevgenip
Yes, remember that only works on water with ions in it and may cause the generation of hydrogen and oxigen.
ante
warhorst,Do you mean to use the water as a conductor?
