LED Circuit for Electric Fence Light

Hi All,
I am new here , and to Electronics so plese go gentle on me!

I have a Circuit Diagram that I have created in Adobe Illustrator to hopefully Show what I have so far.

I found an OLD Fence Light. The Light looks as though it has been run over. I am trying to "Back Engineer" the Light and made this Diagram.

Anyway! I would like to Build this myself and have a "Basic" knowledge of electronics. I haven't built this YET and would like to know if this Circuit would WORK.

You basically hang the + Positive lead on the "Hotwire" of the Fence and connect the - Neg to earth wire / post on the electric fence. It draws the power from the fence pulses itself, so no batteries are required.

I think OP wants visual of pulses and not to just check the fence.
To check the fence is working, simply wee on it. Only hurts for a minute
Your circuit should work although you might want a heftier diode depending on fence voltage.

That IS Correct! Visual Pulses. I have checked the Fence many times with a jolt to the arm or Head. So all references to holding to check if woking will fall on Deaf Ears. There's Always one and that's usually me... Ha Ha Ha

I did realise that.
One we used could see over 1/2 mile away at night.
No need to piss on it either as a blade of grass will give a decent indication.

Electric fence V, at only leakage levels, in the 10 kV range. If you
load it with LED kinds of current the fence operating V will drop
significantly.

A cheap HV diode could be microwave oven diode like :



You also have a problem with resistors that can withstand HV w/op arcing, so use ones with lead
distance that can prevent arcing :



Or you could use a HV cap........

You will also want to coat the circuit to prevent moisture/humidity type arcing,
silicon rubber (not sure it can handle V, chk this out).

The value of the R experiment with, maybe start with something like 100 uA
current for the LEDs......I think if you attempt in mA range would compromise
fence effectiveness.

I recommend using real neon lamps or tubes in series with a high resistance for the indication.
The current LEDs require to light will likely kill the fencer voltage.
