Fluorescent replacement LED tupe light connections

Would it not be better to replace the whole light fitting with a complete new LED fitting, rather than replacing the tubes with LED ones? That way you get nice modern lights, rather than old lights with LED tubes. In ten years time you will still have old obsolete lights and there probably...

    Sloppy Schematic Questions

As Bertus explained above. I would just put a diode inline in the positive supply line. Current will only flow to the circuit if polarity is correct. The diode will block current if polarity is wrong. I have found this method more reliable than fitting crowbar diodes across the supply lines.

Variable Voltage Lab Power Supply Using PSU

Crikey, 11K views! Didn't think this would be so popular. Hope it has been an inspiration to a few people to build something similar for themselves. Power supply is still working fine, never had a problem with it.

    Automotive Warning light help

Looks like you have been having issues with this system since 2014? Float circuit is "fail safe", ie it triggers if the wire is broken or the sensor is disconnected etc. Quite common on vehicles for safety related warning or protection systems. The float will probably have a magnet in it...

Newb needing guidance on 3-phase service.

Would this be what he has? Four Wire Delta Circuits - Continental Control Systems, LLC (ctlsys.com) A four-wire delta (4WD) electrical service is a three-phase delta service with a center-tap on one of the transformer windings to create a neutral for single-phase loads. Motors loads are...

    New (old) guy

Welcome Bob. I use a selection of soldering irons for working on vehicles in my day job. I use a Bosch PLP100 soldering gun/pistol every day at work. Love the instant heat. It is about thirty years old and has been obsolete for years. I managed to buy a couple of new tips a few years ago, so...

Why Do DC Inverters Damage Items?

From your posted inverter specs..."Output waveform (resistive load) . . . Modified sine wave". Manufacturer manual states... "not to be used with inverters". Looks like the electronics in the controller require pure sine wave AC from mains, not the rounded off square wave produced by your...

You could try a DC voltage step up module from Aliexpress to boost the +12v to the required 24v for the bulbs.

Managing parallel loads in 12v circuit

Car flasher units are usually built to operate two 21watt bulbs in parallel, that's about 3.5amps. Most won't work with the very small current that LED's draw. You can get special flasher units for LED's. I would suggest that you could try the six LED's in parallel with a series resistor...

Snap Action Switch to Activate Linear Actuator

Closing the door once the mower is home in its base station should just require the mower to push on a switch, or break a light beam. The same switch could also open the door when the mower starts to move, but there is a risk that the mower will hit the door before it fully opens. Any chance of...

DMM Showing Current without Current Source

"That battery was also dead inside 24hrs" Please define "dead". Was the battery voltage so low that it wouldn't even light up the dash indicator lights, or was it just that there wasn't enough charge left to crank the engine fast enough to start up and run? Not all alternators have only 6...

DMM Showing Current without Current Source

Having been an automotive electrician for 40years, I have a little bit of experience finding current leaks. I fit one of these terminals to the negative battery post and turn the knob to ON. I then start and run the vehicle for a couple of minutes and then turn it off. I then turn my...

    COVID-19

Here in New Zealand we have been in full Level 4 lockdown for nearly two weeks due to a Delta breakout in Auckland. In the South Island and most of the North Island we go down to Level 3 at midnight Tuesday, but Auckland stays in Level 4. Daughter is a hospital physiotherapist, so is still...

    Test and Tag???

When I did my recent first aid course we were advised to stand back and survey the incident zone before going in and potentially putting ourselves at risk. No good rushing in and being electrocuted touching a vehicle connected to fallen power lines. I would have assumed that emergency service...
