Identify blown IC without circuit diagram

Sadly I doubt it was a bug crawling around, more likely a short somewhere to blow the complete top off the ic like that. Looks like a smps chip but just which one would probably be a guess at best without a schematic. You don't say what sort of "receiver" either.

Glowing LED Bulb - How Does Circuit Flow

In days gone by, we used to have to tred lightly when confronted with fluro tubes that would glow or have spiral glow in the middle of the night while switched off. Some were convinced it was the return of Uncle Fred, but we had to explain it was simply the rise in neutral voltage, usually at...

UK specific laws regarding the sale of self made electrical goods?

As already explained, this is where you need the certification. You are effectively producing an item for public consumption, without any recognised electrical training, without any certification to say the product has been deemed safe to use on any mains grid. These days with so many just...

    18650 Under voltage protection

FYI this is a report on the ones I linked to.... enjoy. https://lygte-info.dk/review/batteries2012/TrustFire TF18650 3000mAh (Flame) UK.html Also another useful site for 18650 cell recognition. https://secondlifestorage.com/celldatabase.php?fkeys=&fbrand=&fform=18650&fmincap=&fsort=1

Hi all, from a different tradesperson.

I would imagine you will have to get some form of electrical certification for each and every product type if they in any way connect to mains supply. That would cover the electrical requirement, then I imagine there would be other consumer related certifications that would cover things such as...

    Programming languages and MC selection.

Don't know why you don't just get a pre-made clone board with all the features, simply plug in to a usb port on your pc. If you want to play with aux gear, get a pro-mini with a usb/ttl adapror. Enough to learn and watch out for as it is without having to muck about with level shifters or...

Problem with bringing internet to entertainment center

I think someone's been hacking into an unknown area. The modem in your last photo is dsl line in from the street with an outlet for a single phone, and the 4 ethernet ports for whatever pc. Don't know what all this co-ax stuff is about or any LAN port INPUT. Then again, we did away with DSL now...

Problem with bringing internet to entertainment center

Do you have an ISP...internet service provider? If so did they provide your modem? Most countries, modems have wireless connection or otherwise cat5 for wired. (maybe even fibre) Could be wrong but sounds to me like you are tapping into some form of tv distribution system.

    Recapping pc motherboards.

It's not THAT difficult to look up the melting points of both 60/40 and lead free solder. I did ......and 60/40 comes in at typically 180 degrees C and lead free at around 240 - 250 degrees C. So....cook away and best of luck.

    Recapping pc motherboards.

Helps to add new tin/lead solder (60/40) to each joint before even thinking about removing the old one. Kellyseye approach the quickest easy way. I have done the "remove and replace" in the past way back when but even then, hardly worth the effort.

    Analogue Electronics Practical Experiments

Analog does not have to include microcontrollers BUT with a few cheap Arduino clone bits and pieces off Ebay you could cover a fair bit of territory.

    Unknown capacitor.

Might pay to do a quick check on C4, appears to be something with the firing of the MOC3062 opto triac chip.

Telephony in Australia - questions re circuits of 600 series connectors

Depends on your supplier. Some modems will operate with single line and 2 inputs for preference such as alarms, lifts etc. others will not and will require you to pay for 2 lines into your premises.(domestic) At times, NBN ain't all it's cracked up to be.

Telephony in Australia - questions re circuits of 600 series connectors

Early Australian phones were party line. As for the polarity as Kellys-eye says, no matter. Now with NBN, even less if that's possible.
