    Outdoor Light Status Indicator

Hi Audioguru, You should try with 2A, but only briefly! ;D  I have a circuit description someware, as soon as I find it I’ll let you know.

    Switching power supply

Hi Audioguru, Thanks for the assessment, what’s the bottom line then? The darlingtons have more than 1000 in gain so there is no problem. The converter put out 2.5A for hours and stayed cool! 8)

    Outdoor Light Status Indicator

Hi Audioguru, Well Mr Theory expert! ;D  Sure, it makes sense to put a current limiting resistor in the circuit like you suggest. The led in my circuit has survived several years with fanmotor starts and stops. The start current peak has a much longer duration in the fanmotor circuit than any...

Hi Alun, I know it’s the number of posts which counts, I was just kidding! ;D  But why not, the problem is only: how is to decide what makes one post worth more than the next?

Yes, I think it was 500 posts! Besides, you shouldn’t believe everything you read!  ;D ;D

    Outdoor Light Status Indicator

Hi Alun, Yes, as I mentioned these numbers of turns is just a start for experimenting! I don’t know if Rob has one 1000W lamp or five 1000W lamps on each “channel” so there is an X in this equation. I have used this circuit for an evacuation fan (2hp) and it works fine.

    Switching power supply

Hi Alun, I found it! Maybe you can calculate the efficiency, since you are good with figures? 8)

Hi, I am still a noobie, it’s not the quantity it’s the quality of the posts which change your label!  ;D ;D

    Outdoor Light Status Indicator

Hi Rob, They should be easy to find, however the 30mm is not a critical thing. Smaller or larger will also work as long as you can put the wire with enough turns on it. If you don’t have a “junkbox” you could search in a dumpster for old computers and things like that. In many power supplys...

    Micro Spot Welder

Hi rfranzk, I have seen a circuit for this app, but unfortunately I can’t find it right now! If I do I’ll let you know. What I can remember from it was; they used a microwave oven transformer and some big diodes as a rectifier. The heater winding (low voltage) was used and rectified and then...

    Salvaging Computer PSU

Hi ZomBie, Interesting! Was this done only by testing, no info on the label? Which where your criteria’s for deciding it was regulating correctly? Did the outputs need these loads simultaneously (for all outputs to regulate correctly) or just on each specific output?    Just curious!  ;D

    Switching power supply

Hi Guys! I have built a”converter” once, without any transformer to produce 28Volts from 12Volts. But I never measured its efficiency! I think it was good though becurse it run cool at 2.5A!  8)

    Outdoor Light Status Indicator

Hi Rob, That’s not too hard to achieve. With a small toroide core (about 30mm or so) you can make a “transformer”. Let the “mains hot” wire make the primary by winding it through the toroide about 8 to10 turns. The secondary will consist of about 30 turns of a thin insulated wire to which you...

    Thermistor with op-amp

Hi pedot, If you have someone else doing this work, you will not learn anything from it! Under different circumstances it would be correct to help you, but now it’s not! Besides it would be a bit of cheating too, don’t you think? 8)
