    220V PCB

A good rule (for any pcb) is never to leave it uncoated, and this goes for both sides. Even if there are no HV present, the solder and the copper will corrode and cause problems in the future. Dust and other contaminations will disturb the circuits function if it’s allowed to collect moist. This...

    Outdoor Light Status Indicator

Hi Audioguru, He is using standard LEDs! As I said before; it’s just a brief pulse! Many components can take a lot of over-current if it’s pulses, a 1A diode can in some cases survive 100A or more if it’s pulsed. There are 50mA fuses which will stand for a 10A pulse and they have a really thin...

    Outdoor Light Status Indicator

Hi Audioguru, OK, this is not the one I was looking for (2A) but anyway Gary thinks it’s possible to send up to 10A through a LED! LED testing: http://www3.telus.net/chemelec/Projects/Osc/Pulsed-LED.htm BTW: Gary is Canadian so you can trust him! ;D ;D

Hi Alun, I don’t know, but in a democracy like this maybe you should try a poll? Lay out the alternatives and let the people give their view! ;)

    Toshiba Satellite battery rebuild

The “boiling” as you call it can work with NiCads if you are careful burning of internal shorts, but I wouldn’t try it with Li-Ion’s. It might blow up in your face! I suspect the battery for the old 486 is not Li-Ion type?

    noobie

The risk involved here is that it might eventually lead to the “kissing ass” mentality I have seen in other forums! Besides there are not that many “active” members here anyway. Of the 11.500 members only 25 has made 100 posts or more! But I could be wrong, it might work anyway!? It might...

    Switching power supply

Hi Audioguru, I agree, caution is a virtue (better safe than sorry)! And I am sorry to have confused you with the wrong transistor symbols. At the time when I converted the old doodle to this drawing I couldn’t find the correct symbol for a darlington. Unfortunately I have lost my old psu along...

    Switching power supply

Hi Audioguru, Yes, I might have been lucky. Don’t you think the minimum specs are very rare? I think so because the manufacturers like to have a good margin to play with! Can you honestly say you have ever found any semiconductor with minimum spec? Well I haven’t not even close to minimum...
