    Simply put, but I’ll update this thread tonight. Positive + from batteries to switch. Then from switch to a resistor and then to the LEDs. The last wire from LED cathode (negative -) goes direct to the negative - of the batteries. Martin

    Ok, I have an idea of what’s going on. Your easiest solution is to wire the batteries through the switch and add a current limiting resistor to the two LEDs. 1 resistor is all that you require. You can leave the original board in in case you want it later.

    Yes that board is a constant current supply, ideal for LEDs. But if you can’t get to the LEDs, how will you wire it?. I will read through this thread again to see what’s what and see what’s easiest to do. Yes, you will need a soldering iron and solder!. Martin

    Hey, why mess around converting the PCB? Why not just put a 5V LED strip, cut to whatever length you require and use a 5V power adapter?. Or individual LEDs of course. Martin

    And to add to the above that of @kellys_eye , the memory switch on the back will have to be in the ‘on’ position. People have simply rewired the memory switch to be the power switch but obviously only works when connected to constant power. Martin

    I wouldn’t believe the 2A rating unless they are a good name brand. Have you got anything that you can use to load test them?. Try using more LEDs to load them and see what current is drawn before it shuts down. Martin

    What is the current rating of your USB chargers? If they’re old stock, they might only be 500mA which means they’re overloaded. The fact that a wall wart and bench PSU work also confirms this. Edit: why not put another LED in circuit so the voltage required is higher?. Then a smaller value...

    Taking the backs off is usually a maximum of four screws. It’s worth a look inside as it could be very easy to fix. The rotary switch is another animal. Some have ball bearings that fall out at their earliest opportunity. If in doubt, take lots of photos as you go. Martin

    Did you get a controller with them? Some are thyristor controlled and others are micro controller. The thyristor controlled lights can easily be circumvented with a bridge rectifier. The micro controller is more complex but can be done with an H bridge. Martin

    Some meters have springs inside to connect the piezo. It’s not uncommon for those to need a good clean. Others, the wires come loose from taking the backs off for battery and fuse changing.
