    APEX JR. subwoofer amp blowing fuses, bad caps found

    They are filter caps. The purpose of removing them is to see if one is shorted. If fuse doesn’t blow after removal, then they are the problem. Replace with same values but 105 degC not 85 degC. Don’t continue using it without replacing them. For test purposes it’s fine. Martin

    Hi Erik, not the best description ‘ticking’!. A visual inspection of capacitors will only show obvious signs, it won’t show high ESR or shorted caps. Take them out of circuit and use an ESR meter. Can you elaborate on ‘ticking’?. Martin

    Actually, if you get a monitor with a power adapter rather than an IEC mains connector, you might be onto something!. 14V seems to be easy to aquire. So it may work ok on 12V. Or a little DC to DC booster up to 14V. Martin

    Buy a cheap universal adapter which probably has 3V, 6V, 9V and 12V @ 1A or more. You can also change the polarity on most of them. Some come with a selection of different connectors. Martin
