    They look like tantalum capacitors. Normally the markings are readable as top number is capacitance in micro farads and lower number is the maximum voltage. I don’t know what the circled number is, somebody will inform us both. Martin

    The problem is the arcing switch. And subsequent’on off’ before the NTC has returned to normal high resistance. Prove it to yourself. Take the switch out and use the socket switch as the main switch. Martin

    To be honest, not really. Like the old points on cars, you could use Emery paper or wet n dry etc. Same as relay contacts, once badly pitted its better to replace. Martin

    Very likely. If the NTC is low resistance, it’s not limiting the current. But that would also depend on how quickly the caps are discharging with their bleed resistors.     According to the schematic, there is no reason for switching the neutral. Yes, arcing can draw high currents. The voltage can drop across the arc causing even more current. The switch looks very pitted and probably needs replacement. Martin

    Take the platter off and see if you can stop the motor with your fingers. I doubt a short would hurt the motor, it’s low voltage (probably 9/12VDC). more like something else downstream if it’s not just a loose belt. Let us know your findings. Martin

    Sounds like you may have a short on the output. Disconnect the speakers and see if the protection circuit still kicks in. If it does, check the output transistors. Does this unit have output for more series/parallel speakers?. If so, the amp overheated or there was an impedance mismatch. Martin

    I second the keypad contacts as a prime suspect and would have been my first thing to check and clean. The graphite on the bottom of each silicone button might have worn away or the actual traces on the board itself. I doubt this unit has tactile switches but it’s not impossible. Martin
