    Depends on the skill sets you have. If you are confident of taking it apart and having a look, perhaps powering it up whilst in bits, it should be easy to see how the fault is occurring and, perhaps, an easy fix.

    The ribbon cable (existing) shows that it is clearly designated for use with the USB port ONLY - neither the audio in or audio out sockets (yet to be fitted) have any connection to the current ribbon cable wiring hence the need for the extra wiring.

    Parallel connection of multiple LEDs is not recommended unless you can match their performance quite critically. Otherwise you'll find just a few LED's hogging the current and most being dim.

    Sounds as if that fan is operating on a PWM (pulse signal) from the mobo. Unless you replicate it you should just purchase a simple 12V fan without the 'third wire' - far simpler and cheaper.
