Hello,

You could also check the orientation of the magnets and coils using a gauss meter app on your phone:
Put a small current through the coil using a powersupply and a resistor, then measure the field using the app.

A magnetic compass would work instead of the Gaussmeter app that Bertus mentioned.

thanks, no compass, analog meter arrives monday I'm just going to hang tight till then, but good stuff though, helps with moral and drive and motivation, cheers

no compass
Easy to make a primitive one. Place a magnet (or magnetised needle) on a bit of polystyrene foam and float it in a cup of water. Or hang a magnetised needle on a cotton thread.

yes aware of magnetising needle and using cork or polystyrene, did you know that if you get a stainless table knife and rub it with you finger and thumb in single strokes (not back and forth) from the base of the knife to the tip over and over for approximatly 30 mins you can magnetise it and it attracts metal ie a fork or a needle the longer you rub it the stronger the knife magnet gets, useless info but I thought you might like anyway!

I wasn't aware of the table knife trick. You'd be annoyed after half an hour if the blade turned out to be made of non-magnetic stainless steel . :)

or maybe a minute or two a day for a month rofl just got to remember to do your strokes in the same direction like near the handle to the tip, let go, and repeat

lol yeah I get what you mean now you have to use the right type of metal!

Hello,

My tablet also seems to work with the gauss meter app.
Do you have a tablet?

so just to make sure would i connect the analog volt meter up to the wires on each coil and make sure that when the, say, north is approching the centre of the coil and the needle on the meter deflects then I just connect all the wires together that make the needle move, say to the right?

That sounds right. If your meter (set to measure Volts) doesn't have a centre-zero then the needle will either hit (or stay at) the left end stop, or else it should move to the right a bit. Just ensure the same magnet polarity and the same approach direction are used for each coil in turn.

I have made the inverter from the IR2110's and now know how to connect the coil arrangement along with a small modification to the diode bridge, and the addition of the two resistors ( 1 ohm and 100 ohm) ( I don't know the wattage that the resistors should be ) got a new tranny on the way and know how to connect it too
If you could shed light on the wattage for the resistors that would be great! I'll run a sim I want to know if I can use my 500watt 20 ohm resistor

The resistors in my posted circuit have nominal values and are there only for the purpose of the simulation. The 1 Ohm represents inherent coil resistance and the 100 Ohm represents an arbitrary load resistance. Omit them in a real-world circuit.

ok so the analogue meter has arrived waiting on coils but they could take anywhere from today and the 3rd of march!! no good!
so I bought two more coils and some mild steel ferrite welding rods for the cores, this should balance up all of the coils on the machine!!
