    Monitoring Rs232 data

No luck with straight through cable either. I'm open to other software, it's just a pain getting approval installing it on a company computer.

    Monitoring Rs232 data

Thanks Harald, but I should be able to monitor the serial port with putty. I'll try a straight through cable next. I also considered making up a sniffer 3 connector cable.

    Monitoring Rs232 data

Thanks Bluejets. I know for sure the printer needs a crossover cable but perhaps I should try a straight through cable since this test is really going to my laptop?

    Monitoring Rs232 data

I'm trying to diagnose a serial communication problem between a host computer and client printer. It's a RS232 full duplex connection from a DB9 com port on the PC through a crossover cable to the DTE printer. All connections and com settings look normal. I thought I'd try reading the data...

    ribbon cable connection repair

What has worked for me is drilling tiny holes on the outer edges of the FFC and then using small twist wire to loop it through the base to secure it. See yellow dots. Another trick that sometimes works to fix a loose contact is to insert a tiny piece of aluminum foil in the shape of a "V"...

My old portable radio volume knob does not go to the lowest point

That pink pot is a FR choke not a pot. Don't fool with them as they set the stages of the radio. I would put its adjustment back where it was. The volume pot likely has a bad spot changing its resistance on the low end.

what relays are good enough for 15amp and 5v activate to build my own breaker box style

Having re read the original post, I advise you consult someone qualified to accomplish what your proposing. Basing your electrical plans on what you heard on some website is quite dangerous. Generators require a transfer switch when tied to your household as a standby system. There are many...

    DC motors and speed control

Well, It's only 400w because.. it's just $45.:D Horsepower is not inherent in the motor, it is developed by loading on the motor. If you haven't much of a load then there is no problem. I would use the 400w drive and limit its output current with something like a MDL-6 fuse for protection.

what relays are good enough for 15amp and 5v activate to build my own breaker box style

Chunky yes, but I wouldn't call it a SSR because of the electro-mechanical relay. It uses an op amp to allow 5v to drive the 24v coil via an optocoupler. RIB stands for relay in box. They are designed and NRTL listed to retrofit low voltage inputs into existing electrical systems. I thought it...

How about a RIB relay? https://www.functionaldevices.com/products/building-automation/details/RIBTE01B/

Will a voltage divider waste power?

Ratstar, if your not talking about high voltage, a voltage follower circuit is probably what your after. You can use a voltage divider with high resistance (low power loss) to feed it with your desired voltage, and still have adequate power output to feed your load...

Why is it PNP instead of PPN for transistors

It can tolerate some reverse current but The N (base) of a biased PNP transistor is more negative that the other P terminals. That is why its labeled that way. The letters don't mean how to hook it up + or -, it's indicating the junction inside the component. A BJT works on current flow...

Why is it PNP instead of PPN for transistors

Just think of PNP as the N junction being sandwiched in the middle. The one that always confused me is the N channel mosfet. You hook your power source to the drain and its source lead drains to ground.

    Chip ID...Who am I?

Thanks for looking Steve. MP65 does show up as MPU6500 motion tracking or stepper motor control so that's not it. No luck with To69 either. I think its a power supervisory chip because its next to the power on button. Alas, I might be dead in the water if I can't find any info on it. Oh well.

    Magneto kill terminal...(2)

Sound like a ring terminal that goes through a bolt for grounding. The kill switch may have a second wire to ensure a good ground. The kill switch just grounds the exciter (primary) coil winding so no spark is produced.

    RGB LEDs

I think you mean 14.5mA. 6uA surprises me too. It seems hardly enough current to get it to turn on. Also, If you look at a Vf vs current chart, the voltage drop is far below 2.1v @ 6uA. How is it that the math works out?

    Chip ID...Who am I?

I came upon this tiny 24 pin smd chip trying to repair an android tablet and can't find anything on the web. Is it a TQFP package? Any idea? Markings are: MP65 TO69C1 L1314D

    RGB LEDs

Interesting. Doing the math the other way would suggest a 3.4Vf although at current that low, i would expect Vf below 2v given the low current. I believe the 2.1Vf is based at its current rating of 10ma or so, not a miniscule 5.3uA. Try measuring the voltage drop across the led.

I'd add a snubber circuit across the relay contacts.

Is it safe to splice these two power cords?

I disagree. It would work, but it violates several electrical codes. If this is near the water of a fish tank it makes it even scarier given the line voltages. I do agree a listed extension cord is best, but if you are insisting on splicing it, leave the 120v pump and power adapter near the...
