Let's assume the miraculous and IC engine efficiency hits 60%. We both
know that the cost is not going to plummet on that engine. Solar PV
generation OTOH has price reductions of potentially orders of magnitude.
Ask yourself - do you honestly believe that a sq m of thin film PV will
forever cost $1000? Or might it one day be knocked out in China for $10?

Wishing won't make it happen.

Regardless how cheap they get, there's a practical limit to how much PV solar
you can fit on your roof, never mind at what incidence it is and how lousy the
insolation is. And in most of Europe and certainly a lot of the USA the sun
shines least when you need it most.

The number of exhaust systems must be greater than half a dozen.

So you didn't buy the aluminised or stainless steel ones ?

I've replaced one engine because of water pump failure, and damaged
another (different cars).

Do you not scan the gauges to check for overtemp ?

My point is that electric motors are more reliable than IC engines, by a
large margin.

I doubt the difference is worth arguing over TBH. However electric motors in
cars are essentially a new thing and the effect of bangs and knocks through
the suspension and drive train cannot be ignored. I cannot think of a
comparable example in which electric motors are used. In trains for example,
the track is pretty flat.

I'm normally a nice guy. Unless someone really pushes me. Then I
push back. A few people learned that the hard way, when I had no choice
but to fight. :)

I've never actually had to use my fists but I kinda know what you mean. I was pleased when I knocked the old school bully off
his pedal bike with a deft clout of my briefcase to his front wheel and he ended up crying on the gravel. Never had any trouble
after that.

Tried buying a new engine lately?

Replacement of an engine is quite rare today. An overhaul, also
quite rare, is a fairly simple task, as well. Batteries *WILL*
fail. Batteres *ARE* expensive. ...particularly since batteries
with a charge density great enough to do the job are only a figment
of your imagination.

Would you care to elaborate on that ? The British Empire (if that's what you had
in mind) was built far more on trade than any wars. More like minor skirmishes
in most cases.

Oh good grief! Europe has the most violent history of any
continent. More petty squabbles, more blood on its hands, more
leftist weenies...
And WE ARE more polite.

Stiff upper lip, and all that rot, eh! LOL!

Indeed one of my Vauxhall Cavaliers (Opel Ascona) manged 180.000 mi with routine maintenance. An American got 1 million miles out of a Saab on
the original engine.

True about roof space, but anyone who lives in a house will have enough
to make a big difference.

Uh ?

Solar thermal makes infinitely more sense as do ground heat pumps with high COPs.

Not currently available in anything beyond cellphone or laptop size. God knows what the cost is ?

Not every 60 seconds.
When the water stops the engine overheats very rapidly, esp on a motorway.

On a motorway the car is cruising at quite low power levels. I suggest you get
better eyes.
