This calculator can be used to find out the power rating required for a resistor, in this case entering any two of the following values, voltage across the resistor(V), the current through the resistor(I), or its resistance in ohms(R) can be used to find the power dissipation in watt.

There are three power formulas any of three can be used to calculate the power, The power P in watts (W) can be calculated as voltage V in volts (V) times the current I in amps (A): P = V * I The power P in watts (W) can also be calculated as squared voltage V in volts (V) divided by the resistance R, in ohms (Ω): P = V2 / R The power P in watts (W) can also be calculated as squared current I in amps (A) times the resistance R in ohms (Ω): P = I2 * R
