Ammar7lb Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 I'v read alot of projects which depend on ultraSonic waves to measure distances and avoide barriers So is it possible by using Laser ,I mean : Could I use Laser to measure distances and How ??http:// Quote
surajbarkale Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 In the first moon mission they put up a mirror on Moon. It was used to measure the distance between Earth & Moon accuratly by bouncing a LASER back from that mirror. As the speed of light is tremendous (3*10^9m/s) you can not use LASER to measure small distances. Maybe you can measure above 500m. But I am not sure. Quote
ante Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 Hi Suraj,How do you explain that the cops measure your speed with a laser? They don Quote
Ammar7lb Posted October 6, 2004 Author Report Posted October 6, 2004 Hi AnteAbout How cops measure your speed ?I think that they use UltraSonic Waves cause it is accurate and easy to use Quote
ante Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 Ammar,I know that they are using laser guns to measure the speed! ;D Quote
Kevin Weddle Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 The time there at 300 meters is 1us. The time there at 1 meter is 3.3 ns. Quote
surajbarkale Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 Ante you are right :) Check out http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question396.htm. It would be interesting to see what electronic they use to measure the short intervals involved. ;D Quote
Kain Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 Yes they do use LASER for speed measuring. My friend found out in the hard way while crusing at 200+ mi/h ;D Quote

steven Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 intresting ive got the lazer radar detecter that detects those hand held radar guns the police use or used to use. as for lasers measureing distance yeh theyve got a spirit leveler out that uses a laser to give you the strait line and i think it measures to, ive seen it at the hardware but dident look into its function very much Quote
Guest Fatal_Byte Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 If you don't want to be clocked by a radar gun you have to have an anti-reflective surface all over your vehicle. Stealth bombers are coated with an anti-reflective surface also...as you might think its not cheap or practical for us. Quote
steven Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 :)well ive found some intresting stuff online about radar invisibility and it relates to the stuff cassette tapes are made of and onother one relates to the rusty stuff on steell when it gets rusty are they radar obsorbant like that iron oxide on tapes or other Quote
