Vox Power EIRE600 Open-Frame AC-DC Supply Delivers 600W in 1.1 Inches

A new single-output unit crams 600W into a board barely over an inch tall, with three cooling routes and approvals spanning medical and industrial gear.

Vox Power has expanded its EIRE family of single-output AC-DC supplies with the EIRE600, an open-frame unit that fits 600W into a 5 × 3-inch footprint and stands only 1.1 inches tall. The numbers show power density above 36.3W/in³, with efficiency peaking at 96%, meaning less waste heat for the surrounding system to shed.

Cooling on Your Terms

Full output is available with either forced-air or conduction cooling at 115VAC. The datasheet’s conduction rating assumes the baseplate is bolted to a 400 × 300 × 3 mm cooling plate with a thermal interface material, whereas the fan rating assumes the unit sits on pillars in moving air. Designers who want to avoid a fan altogether can rely on natural convection for up to 450W, a welcome option where acoustic noise, maintenance, or ingress protection matter most. For brief surges, the supply can reach 750W for three seconds, provided average power stays within the continuous rating.

Input voltage matters here, too. Continuous output derates linearly from 600W at 115VAC to 420W at 85VAC, and operation spans -40°C to +85°C with appropriate derating. The platform is designed for altitudes up to 5,000 m.

Outputs, Signals, and Protection

The universal input accepts 85VAC to 264VAC and has a 0.99 power factor. Hold-up time is 14 ms at 600W and 20 ms at 400W. Four standard models cover 12V, 24V, 36V, and 48V, with rated currents of 50A, 25A, 16.7A, and 12.5A, respectively, and each output offers a wide adjustment range.

Beyond the main rail, the board includes a 5V/2A bias supply and a 12V/0.5A auxiliary fan output. System-level control comes through remote sense, an AC_OK signal, and an inhibit input. With the main output inhibited, standby draw falls to roughly 200mW. Standard protection against overvoltage, overcurrent, short circuits, and overtemperature is included, and the live and neutral lines are both internally fused.

Medical and Industrial Credentials

Medical designers will notice 2 MOPP isolation (4000VAC from input to output), a BF-rated output, and support for both Class I and Class II installations. The series is approved to IEC/UL 60601-1 Edition 3.2 for medical safety and IEC/UL 62368-1 for industrial safety. Conducted and radiated emissions meet EN55032 Class B, which should ease the path through system-level compliance testing. A three-year warranty backs the design.

All told, the EIRE600 is a tidy answer for anyone who needs real wattage without sacrificing board space. Laboratory and diagnostic instruments, patient-adjacent medical equipment, home healthcare devices, and industrial systems are obvious fits, and the trio of cooling options lets it slot into chassis with abundant airflow or none at all. Vox Power offers the EIRE600 through its global network of distributors and representatives.
