Sapphire Tech recently introduced the EDGE+ VPR-5050, a Mini-ITX embedded motherboard based on AMD Embedded+ Architecture. This architecture integrates an AMD Ryzen Embedded V2748 processor and an AMD Versal AI Edge VE2302 adaptive SoC. The motherboard is designed for real-time sensor data processing, AI inference, industrial networking, and multimedia applications.

The Ryzen V2748 handles general computing tasks, multimedia, and connectivity, while the Versal AI Edge SoC is optimized for low-latency, deterministic processing. The board features dual 4K display support, various Ethernet options (10/100/1000/2500 Mb, 10/25Gb), multiple USB and expansion slots (PCIe x8, M.2 for SSD and WiFi), and programmable IO for sensor interfaces. It operates at 30W power, and is built for industrial environments (0°C to 60°C). Developers mainly use it for AI at the edge, factory automation, robots, and real-time sensor data processing.

A few months ago, Sapphire Tech introduced the EDGE IPC-FP6, a Mini-ITX motherboard featuring an AMD Ryzen Embedded V2000 SoC and 10GbE Ethernet support. Compared to this, the Edge+ VPR-5050 comes in two high-end versions: VPR-5050-MB and VPR-5050A-MB, with the “A” model including 64GB eMMC flash and 2x 8GB LPDDR4 RAM instead of 2x 4GB LPDDR4.

Sapphire offers support for RHEL, CentOS 7.9, RHEL 8.2-8.6, and Ubuntu 22.04 on its Mini-ITX motherboard. It also provides standard I/O expansion boards for industrial use and computer vision, including:

  • A dual 10/100/1000Mbps Industrial Ethernet board,
  • An octo GMSL2 Camera board,
  • A dual 10/25Gbps Ethernet board with 16 GPIO, and
  • A board combining Octo GMSL2, 10/100/1000 Ethernet, and Dual CAN Bus.

At the time of writing, the Sapphire Edge+ VPR-5050-MB and VPR-5050A-MB Mini-ITX embedded motherboards, built on AMD Embedded+ architecture, are now available for developers and OEMs. However, pricing details are not currently available. More information can be found on the Edge+ product page.
