Grinn ReneSOM-V2H System-on-Module Supports Renesas RZ/V2H Vision AI SoC

Designed for edge AI applications, the module integrates the Renesas RZ/V2H processor, DRP-AI3 accelerator, and multiple camera interfaces for embedded vision and robotics systems.

ReneSOM-V2H is a small system-on-module (SOM) that is used to do embedded edge-AI and vision-processing tasks. According to its official announcement, this module is created in cooperation with Renesas and includes the Renesas RZ/V2H vision AI processor as a hardware-implemented production platform that simplifies AI-enabled devices development by reducing the complexity of such a system. The module is a heterogeneous computer with hardware AI-accelerated, coupled with various high-speed interfaces in a small industrial-grade, applicable to robotics, smart cameras, industrial automation, and smart IoT systems.

The ReneSOM-V2H can be configured as a full module with the processor, memory interfaces, and required connectivity packaged, meaning that the developer can work on the software and system design, rather than at low-level hardware implementation. This will greatly help in reducing the development cycles and will aid in the adaptation of advanced AI vision capabilities into embedded products.

Processor and AI Architecture

The core of the system-on-module is the Renesas RZ/V2H processor, which has a heterogeneous design aimed at providing efficient edge AI and real-time tasks in terms of control. The processor will consist of four general application processing cores (Arm Cortex-A55), two deterministic real-time processing cores (Arm Cortex-R8), and a system management and power management microcontroller core (Arm Cortex-M33).

In the case of AI workloads, the processor will include the DRP-AI3 accelerator, which can reach up to 8 TOPS of AI inference performance. Through this hardware acceleration, the machine-learning algorithms relevant to object detection, classification, and image analysis can be run on the module without the support of cloud computing. Heterogeneous architecture allows dealing with AI inference, system control, and application logic at the same time, enhancing the performance and responsiveness of real-time systems.

Multimedia Capabilities Vision Processing

ReneSOM-V2H is optimized specially in terms of computer vision. The module has four MIPI-CSI camera interfaces, with which the image sensor can be linked in sequence. The benefit of having multiple cameras allows application in elaborate vision, including stereo vision, object tracking, and spatial knowledge.

To output the display, the module has an MIPI-DSI interface, which allows the embedded displays to be integrated into the module to provide user interfaces or monitoring systems. Having the capability to process and record multiple video streams simultaneously, the platform fits well in using it in systems that require a high level of visual processing, including machine inspection, robotics navigation, and machine intelligence surveillance.

Memory, Connectivity, and Expansion

The module is LPDDR4 memory supporting an added onboard storage in eMMC; it offers a balance between high memory bandwidth and stable non-volatile storage of embedded applications. These memory options experience allows the module to be capable of dealing with dense AI models and multimedia processing workloads.

The ReneSOM-V2H in connectivity offers a variety of high-speed interfaces that can be used in industrial and edge compute systems. They consist of PCIe Gen3, which has 4 lanes, USB 3.2, USB 2.0 and Gigabit Ethernet. These interfaces allow the interconnection with external peripherals like storage devices, sensors, networking devices, and expansion modules.

Compact Form Factor and Industrial Design

The most important aspect of the ReneSOM-V2H is its limited size. The module is about 37 x 42.6 mm and has a custom LGA format, hence it is one of the smallest to be constructed around the Renesas RZ/V2H processor. Its small size enables it to be embedded into small spaces of embedded systems without mistakes in performance.

Industrial applications are also supported by the module with a maximum operating temperature of −40°C to 85°C operating on a single 5-volt power source. This rugged construction is appropriate for use in factory automation systems, outdoor surveillance systems, and other challenging tasks.

Applications

The ReneSOM-V2H is aimed at a broad spectrum of edge and vision applications where real-time processing and small sizes matter. Common applications would be smart cameras, robotics platforms, industrial inspection, and AI-powered IoT. Multi-camera support and artificial intelligence acceleration of the module make it especially suitable in machine-vision Nigerian automotive production lines or autonomous machines.
