Keysight Reveals High-Precision Handheld Analyzer for Rugged RF Environments
The N99xxD series of handheld devices brings lab analyzer precision to rugged field environments, featuring 120 MHz gap-free IQ streaming and supporting more than 25 software applications.
Keysight Technologies has announced the N99xxD series FieldFox handheld analyzer (D series), introducing architectural updates targeting the challenges of modern wideband signal characterization in complex RF environments. Keysight’s FieldFox platform integrates laboratory-grade measurement precision into a ruggedized, portable format. The platform’s newest addition, the D series, features a key performance increase: 120 MHz of gap-free IQ streaming capability.
The need for gap-free streaming is driven by the density and transience of signals found in current and next-generation wireless communications, electronic warfare, and radar systems. Traditional field instruments often miss intermittent or pulsed events due to limitations in data capture rates, transfer bottlenecks, or processing gaps. The D series addresses this by ensuring continuous capture across the full 120 MHz analysis bandwidth, providing the necessary visibility for diagnosing fleeting interference or complex transient behaviors.

120-MHz IQ Streaming and Data Transfer
The technical foundation for the N99xxD-Series FieldFox handheld analyzer’s continuous data capture lies in both its internal signal processing architecture and external data transport interface. The D series features built-in SFP+ high-speed data interfaces, supporting 10 GbE data transfer. This interface is crucial, as the 120 MHz IQ stream generates a significant data volume that exceeds the capacity of standard, slower interfaces. By enabling 10 GbE transfer, the instrument allows users to stream captured wideband data efficiently to external storage or a separate analysis system, a vital requirement for field-to-lab workflows where detailed post-processing and analysis of real-world signal environments are necessary.
The analyzer retains its core multifunction capability, encompassing several key measurement tools in a single chassis. The series includes 14 models covering a frequency range up to 54 GHz. Each unit is software-defined and supports more than 25 applications, including vector network analysis, spectrum analysis, real-time spectrum analysis, cable and antenna test, noise figure measurement, and EMI analysis.
Furthermore, the analyzer specifies a high level of RF performance, particularly its absolute amplitude accuracy of ±0.1 dB without requiring a warm-up period. This level of accuracy is designed to enable trustworthy measurements immediately upon deployment in the field, reducing setup and calibration time.

AI-Enhanced Spectrum Monitoring
A notable enhancement to the FieldFox D series is the integration of advanced AI capabilities. This integration leverages the wideband signal capture to perform faster, automated identification of standard signal types. By incorporating a new machine learning model (S9916A) into the spectrum management solution, the analyzer can automatically classify major wireless standards, including LTE, 5G NR, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, with high accuracy.
For users operating in congested or contested spectrum environments, this automation provides immediate insight, eliminating the manual, time-consuming process of demodulating and identifying unknown or interfering signals. The shift to a Linux-based operating system also underpins the architectural updates, enhancing the analyzer’s native security features and improving file management capabilities.
