The Orange Pi R2S is a compact octa-core RISC-V router board based on the Ky X1 processor, designed for headless networking and edge AI applications. It offers a cost-effective solution with high-speed Ethernet connectivity and decent AI performance starting at $30.

The board features an 8-core X60 RISC-V CPU @ 1.6GHz, IMG BXE-2-32 GPU, and 2.0 TOPS AI performance. It includes 2x 2.5GbE and 2x GbE ports, USB 3.0 & 2.0, up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM, 8GB eMMC, and a 10-pin MicroSD connector. Video output and GPIO are omitted for a smaller footprint (79.2 x 46 mm). Power is supplied via USB-C (5V/3A), and a 3-pin serial console is available for debugging. The board supports OpenWrt 24.10 and Ubuntu 24.04 with Linux 6.6, making it suitable for embedded routers, edge AI, and other headless computing tasks.

The Orange Pi R2S supports OpenWrt 24.10 and Ubuntu 24.04 with a Linux 6.6.xx kernel, for both networking and general-purpose applications. Additionally, you have a 126-page user manual with detailed setup and usage instructions, while official OS images are expected to be hosted soon. The USB 2.0 port also functions as an upgrade and flashing interface, and serial console access is available via a 3-pin UART header for low-level debugging.

The Orange Pi R2S is smaller than the RV and RV2 boards, cause it has no display, camera, and GPIO interfaces. Compared to the Banana Pi BPI-RV2, it lacks M.2 and PoE but offers more RAM and storage, making it better suited for headless edge AI tasks using its 2 TOPS Ky X1 processor.

The Orange Pi R2S is available in three configurations: 2GB RAM for $30.00, 4GB RAM for $39.90, and 8GB RAM for $49.90 (TBD). Currently, only the 2GB and 4GB models are listed on Orange Pi’s official AliExpress store. The 8GB version is expected to be available soon.
