Rohde & Schwarz Extends Vector Network Analyzer Frequency to 54 GHz

The new R&S ZNB3000 models cover frequencies up to 54 GHz, targeting fast and accurate measurement in 5G, 6G, Wi-Fi and satellite communications applications.

Rohde & Schwarz has announced an expansion of its R&S ZNB3000 vector network analyzer series with new high-frequency models that extend the frequency range up to 54 GHz. This update is designed to meet the evolving demands of RF and microwave component testing, particularly for emerging technologies in telecommunications, data centers, and satellite communications.

Extended Frequencies and a High Dynamic Range

The new frequency models build upon the existing capabilities of the R&S ZNB3000 family, which combines a high dynamic range, fast measurement speed, and low trace noise. The extended frequency coverage to 32 GHz, 43.5 GHz, and 54 GHz enables users to characterize a wider range of devices and systems, including those operating in higher millimeter-wave bands. This is particularly relevant for communication standards like 5G and 6G, which utilize higher frequencies for increased data throughput.

A key technical feature of the R&S ZNB3000 series is its high dynamic range, which can reach up to 150 dB. This allows for the precise measurement of devices with high attenuation, such as filters or long transmission lines. The low trace noise, specified at less than 0.0015 dB RMS, further contributes to measurement accuracy and repeatability, essential for component manufacturing and quality control.

Flexible Upgrades and Fast Time-Domain Analysis

The R&S ZNB3000 analyzers also feature a fast measurement speed, which aids in maximizing production throughput in manufacturing and for accelerating development cycles in R&D. Additionally, the analyzer’s low start frequency of 9 kHz enables precise time-domain analysis, which is useful for applications such as fault location in cables or characterizing high-speed interconnects.

Rohde & Schwarz has also implemented a flexible frequency upgrade concept for the ZNB3000 series. This allows customers to purchase a vector network analyzer with a lower maximum frequency and then upgrade the frequency range later via a software license. This provides a level of future-proofing and flexibility for companies with evolving testing needs or budget constraints, enabling them to expand the capabilities of their equipment as new projects or technologies emerge.

Advancing RF Component Testing

In summary, the new R&S ZNB3000 vector network analyzer models from Rohde & Schwarz provide extended frequency coverage up to 54 GHz, addressing the growing needs of high-frequency and high-bandwidth applications. The combination of high dynamic range, low trace noise, and a flexible upgrade path offers users a versatile tool. The analyzer’s extended frequency range makes it suitable for testing RF components for technologies like 5G and 6G, high-speed interconnects in AI data centers, and satellite communication equipment operating in the Ka and V bands.
