SMD 0402, Glass-Protected NTC Thermistors
Vishay’s new NTCS0402E3104*XT combines an electrical resistance value at 25°C (R25) of 100 kW with a high beta (B25/85) value of 4311 K. The thermistor is fully glass-coated and protected, enabling operation across a wide temperature range of -55°C to 150°C. For high-accuracy applications, the device offers tolerances as low as ±1% for both R25 and B25/85 values.
Furthermore, the NTCS0402E3104*XT is AEC-Q200 qualified, meeting the rigorous reliability standards required for automotive systems. A significant feature of Vishay’s new device is its ESD robustness; the device offers an ESD withstand capability of greater than 25 kV in accordance with the human body model.
Mechanically, the thermistor utilizes an SMD construction with NiSn terminations, making it compatible with both wave and reflow soldering processes. Its maximum power dissipation at 25°C is rated at 70 mW, with a dissipation factor of approximately 2.0 mW/K and a thermal time constant of roughly 5 s. The device is RoHS-compliant and halogen-free.

Precision Thermal Sensing
To facilitate rapid design-in and circuit simulation, Vishay provides a dedicated SPICE model for the component. The 0402 industry-standard footprint allows the NTCS0402E3104*XT to serve as a drop-in replacement for existing solutions in high-density PCB layouts. The devices are delivered on punched paper tape on reels, with 10,000 units per package.
The combination of high resistance, high beta values, and tight tolerances makes the NTC thermistor suitable for monitoring thermal conditions in automotive LED modules, electronic control units, and battery packs. It is also applicable for sensor clusters and optical modules such as radar, LiDAR, and cameras. Beyond automotive use, the device serves industrial roles in energy meters and fire detectors, as well as telecom power supplies and consumer electronics.
