Vishay’s New Power Inductors Target Space-Constrained Designs
The four new power inductors feature compact footprints, high operating temperatures, and low typical DCR, making them suitable for a wide range of commercial and automotive applications.
Vishay Intertechnology has released four new power inductors targeting space-constrained designs:
- Commercial-grade IHLL-0806AZ-1Z and IHLL-1210AB-1Z
- Automotive-grade IHLP-0806AB-5A and IHLP-1210ABEZ-5A.
The devices deliver comparable performance to larger competing parts while occupying significantly smaller board space.

Footprint and Performance Characteristics
The 0806 case size measures 2.0 mm x 1.6 mm x 1.2 mm, while the 1210 variant occupies 3.2 mm x 2.5 mm x 1.2 mm. According to Vishay, these dimensions represent a 64% footprint reduction for the 0806 package and 11% for the 1210 package compared to the next-smallest competing inductors offering similar performance.
The new inductors span inductance values from 0.24 µH to 4.70 µH, with typical DCRs as low as 6.6 mΩ in the commercial 1210 series. Heat rating currents reach up to 9.2 A, while saturation currents extend to 11.5 A at 30% inductance drop for certain variants. The commercial versions operate across -55°C to 125°C, while the automotive-grade parts handle -55°C to 165°C.

Design and Construction Details
Both commercial and automotive versions feature powdered iron bodies with complete winding encapsulation, eliminating air gaps and providing magnetic shielding to minimize crosstalk. The soft saturation curve characteristic maintains stable performance across the full temperature and current operating ranges.
Terminal plating differs between the two grades. The commercial IHLL series features bottom-only plating, enabling tighter land patterns for dense board layouts. The automotive IHLP series adds side plating, forming solder fillets that enhance mechanical shock resistance and simplify visual inspection of solder joints. The automotive parts are AEC-Q200-qualified.

Target Applications and Availability
Vishay’s new automotive-grade inductors can be used in powertrain control units, ADAS sensors, LiDAR systems, infotainment modules, and braking systems. The commercial-grade inductors can be used in applications including CPU power delivery, SSD modules, data center equipment, industrial automation, consumer electronics, medical devices, and telecommunications infrastructure.
All four series serve DC/DC conversion, noise suppression, and filtering functions in these systems. The devices ship in RoHS-compliant, halogen-free packages with 100% lead-free construction. Samples and production quantities are available now, with a 10-week lead time.
