SiFive has announced that its HiFive Premier P550 development board is now available in two configurations of 16GB and 32GB RAM versions. The product was launched in October last year as a Yocto-based early access edition, which was quickly sold out. The RISC-V development board, designed for developers working on RISC-V software and hardware projects, will come pre-installed with Ubuntu 24.04.

Due to the increased demand for the HiFive Premier P550, production has been ramped up in collaboration with ESWIN. The higher production volume has led to a price reduction. Early buyers will receive refunds for the price difference, says the company. According to SiFive, it has received positive feedback on the hardware with more developer adoption used for testing software, running build farms, and even gaming.

Specifications of HiFive Premier P550

SiFive says that early users appreciated the smooth out-of-the-box experience, thorough testing and certification, and selection of premium hardware components such as Samsung and Micron LPDDR memory and Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) for remote management.

The product is a combination of engineering collaboration from SiFive (provider of RISC-V IP), ESWIN (semiconductor company helping with manufacturing), and Canonical (ensuring Ubuntu is optimized for the board). SiFive claims that the release of these boards is about expanding the RISC-V ecosystem. More boards are expected in the near future.
