u-blox has introduced its first industrial automotive-grade Wi-Fi 7 host-based modules, the RUBY-W2 series (RUBY-W273-05A and RUBY-W295-05A). These modules enable OEMs to enhance in-vehicle infotainment and telematics by supporting Multi-Link Operation (MLO) use cases, delivering high-performance wireless connectivity.

Powered by automotive-qualified Qualcomm QCA6797AQ or QCA6787AQ chipsets, the RUBY-W2 modules support tri-band Wi-Fi 7 and dual-mode Bluetooth 5.4. They offer up to 5.8 Gbit/s (PHY) throughput in High Band Simultaneous (HBS) mode, making them ideal for in-car hotspots, Apple CarPlay, and multi-client video streaming.

Designed for the automotive market, the RUBY-W2 series improves network availability, increases throughput, reduces latency, and supports more concurrent users. Key features include Multi-Link Operation (MLO) with Dual Band Simultaneous (DBS) and High Band Simultaneous (HBS) modes, 2×2 MU-MIMO, Bluetooth LE Audio, long-range Bluetooth, WPA2/3 security, and secure boot.

The u-blox RUBY-W2 series, based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Auto Connectivity Platform, features the RUBY-W273-05A and RUBY-W295-05A modules with Qualcomm QCA6787AQ and QCA6797AQ chipsets. These automotive-grade Wi-Fi 7 modules support 2×2 MIMO Multi-Link Operation (MLO) and deliver up to 5.8 Gbit/s (PHY) throughput using IEEE 802.11be in High Band Simultaneous (HBS) mode. They operate in the 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands, reducing congestion in the 2.4 GHz spectrum, and supporting access point, station, and peer-to-peer (P2P) modes.

Designed for in-vehicle infotainment and telematics, the modules enable multiple passenger screens, high-speed data offloading, and Firmware Over-the-Air (FOTA) updates. They also integrate dual-mode Bluetooth 5.4 with LE Audio and long-range connectivity.

The RUBY-W2 series also integrates dual-mode Bluetooth 5.4, supporting BR/EDR and LE features such as high data rates, extended advertising, long-range, and isochronous channels for LE Audio. It operates simultaneously with Wi-Fi, enabling energy-efficient, high-quality audio streaming and reliable wireless connectivity.

The module supports Android and Linux, with Qualcomm-provided drivers facilitating migration between technology generations. Pricing details for the RUBY-W2 series have not been disclosed, but additional information is available on the product page and press release.
