Intel RealSense has recently introduced the Depth Camera Module D421, an entry-level stereo depth camera designed to make depth-sensing more accessible and affordable. It integrates the D4 Vision Processor and the optical module on a single board, allowing for onboard depth calculations, and making it highly efficient and space-saving. With a 75° × 50° field of view and a recommended range of 0.2 m to 3 m, it is ideal for 3D vision-based AI applications such as robotics, 3D scanning, and object recognition. It uses a 1MP global shutter for high-speed depth sensing and is compatible with popular operating systems like Windows, Linux, and Android, supported by the Intel RealSense SDK 2.0.

Lightweight and easy to integrate, the D421 is designed for indoor and outdoor use, offering high-depth accuracy, up to 1280 × 720 resolution, and up to 60 fps. Its compact form and USB-C connector make it a flexible tool for robotics, toys, 3D glasses, and consumer electronics. Therefore, they depend on quick, accurate depth measurements to move around, find things, and avoid obstacles.

Previously we have read about some similar Depth Camera modules including The E-Con Systems TOF Camera, the STMicroelectronics VL53L5 Mini Depth Camera, the Stereo vision Camera, the Arducam Kingkong, and many more. Feel free to check those out if you are interested in the topic.
