PICDEV USB Development Board Combines PIC18F’s capabilities with the Popular Uno Form Factor

Turkey-based MH-EDU-Electronics has designed a state-of-the-art development board made for versatility and ease of use, a game changer for all levels of developers. The new PICDEV USB development board unleashes the power of the Microchip PIC microcontrollers, follows after the Arduino Uno form factor, and comes equipped with a plethora of features that help to bring projects to life without stress.

Whether as a hobbyist, a student, or a professional, you will definitely find the PICDEV USB useful for endless innovation. The PICDEV USB board shares the same familiar outline as the classic Arduino Uno board, having the same space and following the Uno pin layouts. It presents itself as a perfect companion for Arduino prototyping boards because users can easily integrate their PIC projects, utilizing existing Arduino shields and accessories.

There are some differences however between the Arduino Uno and the PICDEV USB; one of which is the absence of an on-board regulator. The PICDEV USB also does not have any microprocessor chip included in it but it does support various USB-compatible PIC18F series microcontrollers including the 20-, 28-, and 40-pin through-hole variants of the microcontrollers. This totally eliminates the issues around compatibility, opening developers up to seamless development and additional flexibility. Then the ICSP header is located on an edge– a placement that means the absence of the 6-pin header which most shields use to access ISP signals.

The all-in-one board also comes with an onboard 12MHz crystal oscillator but allows you to add your own if needed. You’ll find a jumper that allows you to switch between both oscillators. There’s also one status LED indicator, one onboard reset microcontroller button, a power select jumper that allows you to choose between USB power and external 5V power, and an option for either a USB Type-C or Type-A connector depending on your project’s requirements. Please note that this board does not come with a voltage regulator for voltages higher than 5V as you’d find with Arduino boards.

The PICDEV USB sells for $19.99 on Tindie but it is currently out of stock. You can sign up to get notified when the product is back in stock. If you wish, you can request that the board be shipped with a PIC microcontroller instead of the USB port but that would mean more cost.

Other useful details can also be found on the Tindie page.
