Earlier this year, Raspberry Pi announced that its new RP2350 microcontroller is now available for purchase through its global network of approved resellers. The RP2350 was introduced in August 2024 as part of the Raspberry Pi Pico 2 lineup. This 32-bit microcontroller utilizes a dual-core architecture, enabling developers to select between two Arm Cortex-M33 cores or two Hazard3 RISC-V cores, although only two cores can operate simultaneously.

As a successor to the RP2040, the RP2350 offers enhanced performance, with a price increase of 10 cents for the 7x7mm, 60-pin package and 20 cents for the 10x10mm, 80-pin version. The company emphasizes that the sub-$1 price point of the RP2350 MCU supports greater integration into high-volume, low-cost end devices.

In conjunction with this launch, Raspberry Pi announced a partnership with JLCPCB to provide fast-turn PCB assembly support, streamlining the development and prototyping process. The company reports an overwhelming response, with hundreds of distinct designs based on the RP2350 submitted for manufacturing.

Specifications of the RP2350 microcontroller

  • CPU: Dual Arm Cortex-M33 or dual Hazard3 RISC-V processors at 150MHz
  • Memory: 520 KB on-chip SRAM
  • Flash storage: Supports up to 16 MB of external QSPI
  • MCU voltage: 3.3V
  • Interfaces: 2x UART, 2x SPI, 2x I2C, 24x PWM channels, 4/8x ADC channels, 1x USB 1.1 controller and PHY, 12x PIO state machines
  • Security features: ARM TrustZone for Cortex-M, optional boot signing, protected OTP storage, global bus filtering, hardware mitigations, and hardware SHA-256 accelerator
  • IC package: 7x7mm QFN56, 7x7mm QFN60, 10x10mm QFN80

Raspberry Pi also officially confirmed that the RP2354A and RP2354B variants, which include 2MB of stacked flash memory, are nearing completion and expected to enter mass production soon. The modules are in the final stages of development and testing with early access partners. At the same time, they will be available to the public through approved reseller partners later this year.

The company has celebrated the success of RP2350 from early access to general availability worldwide. Raspberry Pi focuses on the community and ecosystem that adopts the hardware and turns it into real-world products. They believe that RP2350 has huge potential to be deployed in high-performance industrial embedded systems, secure IoT devices, and consumer products.
