EDATEC ED-PLC2010 – A Raspberry Pi CM4-based industrial controller with licensed CODESYS runtime

EDATEC has recently introduced the ED-PLC2010 is an industrial controller built around the Raspberry Pi CM4 module, designed for factory automation and process control applications. One of the most interesting features of this controller is that it integrates CODESYS runtime, which enables real-time control, IEC 61131-3 programming, and supports both EtherCAT and Modbus TCP protocols, making it suitable for distributed I/O systems.

The device supports up to 32 ED-EIO I/O modules, including digital and analog inputs/outputs, RTDs, thermocouples, high-speed counters, and more. Other features include a quad-core Cortex-A72 CPU, up to 8GB RAM, eMMC flash storage, Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0, RS232/RS485, HDMI output, and optional WiFi, Bluetooth, or 4G LTE connectivity. It also includes various status LEDs, function buttons, and a crypto authentication chip for added security. Housed in a DIN rail-mountable enclosure, the ED-PLC2010 operates from -10°C to 55°C and runs Raspberry Pi OS Lite. Its compact size, robust features, and pre-licensed industrial CODESYS environment make it ideal for applications in industrial automation, machine control, and IIoT systems.

The company mentions that the EDATEC ED-PLC2010 controller ships with preloaded CODESYS software, which is an industrial automation platform for real-time control, motion control, and visualization for PLC applications. It supports IEC 61131-3 programming languages such as ST, LD, FBD, SFC, and CFC through the CODESYS V3.5 IDE.

EDATEC ED-PLC2010 is an industrial controller powered by a Raspberry Pi CM4

The licensed runtime includes support for CODESYS EtherCAT Master and Modbus TCP Master protocols, making it suitable for distributed industrial systems. Optional add-ons like SoftMotion, CNC+Robotics, TargetVisu, WebVisu, and OPC UA Server expand its capabilities to cover motion control, robotic applications, local and web-based HMIs, and secure industrial data exchange. This software stack transforms the Raspberry Pi CM4-based controller into a fully programmable, industrial-grade automation device ready for use in factory and process automation environments.

At the time of writng some EDATEC ED-PLC2010 are availabel on re DigiKey, but but they’re currently out of stock. You can visit the product page for more details, including the datasheet and user manual.
