Variscite VAR-SOM-AM62P SoM features TI Sitara AM62Px processor with Wi-Fi 6, dual GbE, and CAN-FD for industrial and multimedia applications
Variscite has recently launched the VAR-SOM-AM62P, a cost-effective System on Module (SoM)/Computer on Module (CoM) based on the Texas Instruments Sitara AM62Px SoC, designed for high-performance multimedia and industrial applications.
It features a 1.4GHz quad-core Cortex-A53 processor paired with an 800MHz Cortex-R5F real-time co-processor, making it suitable for tasks requiring performance and real-time responsiveness. The VAR-SOM-AM62P supports H.264/H.265 video encoding and decoding, a 3D GPU, and multi-screen capabilities, making it ideal for advanced graphical applications. It offers robust connectivity options such as dual Gigabit Ethernet, certified Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax/ac/a/b/g/n), optional 802.15.4, Bluetooth/BLE 5.4, 4x CAN-FD, audio, camera input, and dual USB 2.0 ports.
Designed for industrial environments, it operates in a wide temperature range of -40°C to 85°C. It belongs to the VAR-SOM Pin2Pin family, ensuring compatibility across different modules and supporting various operating systems. Developers widely use this SoM in embedded systems for industrial control, smart gateways, multimedia systems, robotics, and edge computing applications.
Variscite previously launched other SoMs, including the DART-MX93, the DART-MX95, and others. We have also covered the VAR-SOM-MX93, an NXP-based Wi-Fi 6 module that offers extended bandwidth for streaming, reduced latency, and optimized power management.

The company offers Linux support for the VAR-SOM-AM62P through both Debian and the Yocto Project, along with an Android BSP for multimedia and touchscreen applications. Notably, support for the AM62P5 SoC has been in demand since Linux kernel version 6.6 LTS. While a dedicated development kit isn’t listed on the official product page, Variscite did share an image of the VAR-SOM-AM62P devkit, which also features a touchscreen display, making it well-suited for HMI development.

Variscite hasn’t shared pricing details for the VAR-SOM-AM62P just yet. However, to give some context, the previous VAR-SOM-AM62 module starts at around $33.00, and its development kit is priced at $249.00. For more details, you can check out the official product page and press release.
