WiFi for Arduino with Asus WL-520gu @ todbot blog:

I love Arduino but its lack of wireless bugs me. And it sucks that WiFi Shields for the Arduino cost as much a cell phone. I want something cheap. Turns out, small, cheap WiFi routers like the Asus WL-520gu can run the DD-WRT Linux firmware and act as serial-to-network gateway for Arduinos (or most any other USB device). Here’s how to do it.

This project is a balancing pendulum that swings with a fan motor. A webcam “watches” a mark on the shaft of the pendulum. The motor is controlled with an Arduino, using PWM pulses through a H-bridge. This latest version powers the motor through 2 brushes on each side of the 2-pieces metallic shaft of the pendulum. The swing up algorithm uses a PID in feed-forward to control the energy, and when the angle is within 0.2 rads of the vertical axis, another PID loop controls the angle of the pendulum. [via]

If you accidentally blow the wrong fuses on your AVR devices then you might want to check out Jeff Keyzer’s HV Rescue Shield. [via]

The basic idea is that there are certain blocks of memory (fuses) on the microcontroller that control how it starts up, which can’t be erased by a standard programmer. Instead, you need a device capable of generating a high-voltage signal to put the chip into a special programming mode, so that they can safely be re-programmed to correct vales.

Jeff’s solution was to create an shield for the Arduino, which has a built-in DC-DC converter that generates the 12V signal necessary to reprogram AVR chips. The whole project is open source, and schematic and code can be found at the project website.

This project is an Arduino datalogging accelerometer with u-SD storage using the Will Greiman’s Fat16 library for the Arduino and based on ATMega168. The code is highly configurable: it can save raw A/D values or converted values, it allows software-defined gain, it can collect for a set time or until user input, and of course the collection interval is user-defined.
