Espressif System ESP8684-based eight different modules for high volume IoT applications

Espressif Systems have launched a cost-reduced high-volume ESP32-C3 microcontroller development board under the name ESP8684. There are a total of eight different modules with minor changes in terms of the total GPIOs and the dimension. However, all of these modules have 2MB or 4MB of SPI flash storage except the ESP8684-MINI-1. The ESP8684-DevKitM-1 entry-level development board is based around the ESP8684-MINI-1, a general-purpose module with 1/2/4 MB SPI flash. It also integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless connectivity functions.

ESP32-C2 is a low-cost system-on-chip that features Wi-Fi 4 and Bluetooth 5 low-energy with a unique design to incorporate a 32-bit RISC-V single-core processor. ESP32-C2 is designed for high volume and low data rate IoT applications, such as smart plugs and smart light bulbs. It has integrated security features such as secure boot and flash encryption, while also offering hardware root-of-trust for any application.

On the software side of ESP8684-DevKitM-1, it supports ESP-AT software that provides a set of AT commands for integrating wireless connectivity features without a need for embedded application development of the module on this development board.
